Point to Ponder:
In relation to your health and wellness, what are 3 things that are working for you and 3 things that are not working for you?
A few weeks ago my professional coach and iGnite member, Martha Lynn Mangum, asked me these two very important and thought-provoking questions:
What are 3 things that are working for you?
What are 3 things that are not working for you?
Martha asked me these questions so I could evaluate 2019 and determine what changes I needed to make in order to finish the year more effective, more productive and begin the new year with positive, forward momentum. According to Scott Harris, Performance Strategist and Coach, momentum is the most important property in carrying you through to the goals and lifestyle you desire and deserve. The truth is, without momentum, you risk losing the crucial drive and consistent commitment toward your goals you worked so hard to create.
What I like so much about this exercise is it can be applied to every area of our life and it’s about acknowledgement and elimination: two things we do not spend much time doing. Most often our tendency is to keep stacking things we want to do in order to reach the results we want instead of pausing to evaluate what's not working and/or eliminate a negative behavior.
Within the upcoming weeks we will launch our Health and FITmas Challenge, which encourages you to remain consistent and committed to your iGnite weekly exercise routine and to make time for self-care practices (sleep, hydration, down time, etc). Our goal for you is to remain healthy and well throughout the holiday season so you can start 2020 with positive, forward momentum. Therefore, as you begin to prepare and plan for how you will remain healthy during the holidays, I encourage you to answer these two questions regarding your health, fitness, and self-care regimen:
What are 3 things that are working for you?
What are 3 things that are not working for you?
For the thing(s) that are not working for you, if it is still important to you and aligns with your vision and goals, determine what needs to shift in order for you to have success. Or, if you determine it’s not important to you after all, you can simply remove it.
Rachel Hollis, author of “Girl, Wash Your Face” has posed a similar question in the form of a 90-day/4th Quarter Challenge. She says, "Imagine what it would be like to START your New Year on the 20th floor instead of back down in the basement! Imagine how much momentum you'll have.” This analogy resonates with me and I parallel my 2020 goals being at the top of the Empire State Building, so I want to be on higher levels as soon as I can so I can at least be on the 20th floor when New Years Day arrives!
