iGnite Spotlight: San Diego Member, Erinn Hanson

Roots

I grew up in San Diego and lived a year in Lake Tahoe.

Family Life

Derek and I have been married 12 years. We have three kiddos Graham, Blake, and Charlotte. And one hairy boy named Zephyr.

Work Life

Before having Graham I worked in a special needs preschool with toddlers with all different abilities. It was the best job! It felt like volunteering and playing everyday with a (little) paycheck . Plus summers off! I worked with the whole family. I didn’t feel confident giving mothers advice since I wasn’t a mom yet. But if I could go back I would just give them a big hug and tell them they’re doing a good job. Once my youngest is a little older I would love to substitute or find a volunteer position similar to my old job.

What's the best advice you've ever been given?

My dad gives some good advice. My parents place great value in their family, faith, and friends. My dad has said “It’s not about being happy or perfect, but about being content.” I have to remind myself often that in this “Pinterest” time. I just bought Graham a frame for above his desk and in it is has a quote from Abraham Lincoln it’s says “What ever your are, be a good one.”

What have you enjoyed the most from your iGnite experience?

I love the iGnite community! Del Sur is an great neighborhood, but what iGnite has brought me is something hard to put into words. I’ve met women that I might have never gotten to know. It’s “good” people. It’s more than an awesome workout, sometimes it’s the only adult conversation I’ll have that day, it might be the number for a good handyman, or the best new leggings, or a quiet moment of meditation and reflection. iGnite is my me time. I have such a better day when I make it to class.

What's something people may not know about you

Give me a glass of wine and I’ll tell you anything. Haha! I’ve know my husband since I was three. He went to prom with my best friend, and yes we are all still good friends.

Do you have a celebrity look-a-like?

In my early twenties my girlfriend and I convinced some guys we were the Dixie chicks in town for the super bowl. Don’t know if they bought it but I think we got a free cocktail.

When you have free time, we'd catch you doing what?

On a hike with my family. Walking the beach. Trying to catch the sunset.

What is something you are looking forward to?

Family time in Tahoe. For ski week we will head up there and “torture” the kids with ski school. And in the summer we will be found hiking, playing on the lake boating, paddle boarding, skipping rocks, grilling. Simple outdoor fun.

What are most passionate about?

Family and teaching them to give back. Our kiddos are so lucky! I want them to enjoy it, but also know it’s a gift to be shared.
